British competitors have been set the tough target of 48 medals and fourth place in the medal table at this summer’s London Olympics.
If Team GB’s medal haul reaches 48, it will beat the total from the 2008 Olympics in Beijing by one. Fourth place would match the team’s achievement from four years ago. The goal has been set by UK Sport, the body responsible for investing public money in elite-level sport.
Everyone at elms Direct is excited about the London Games. We’re particularly enthusiastic about our own sponsored athletes, including hockey player Iain Mackay who had to overcome injury to secure his spot in the 16-strong men’s squad.
“We’re chuffed that Iain has earned his place at the Olympics, especially as he’s had to fight so hard,” said Elms Stansted’s Dealer Principal, Paul Walton. “Everyone at Elms is really behind the hockey team. It would be great if Iain and his teammates could win one of the 48 medals!”
Baroness Sue Campbell CBE, Chair of UK Sport, said: “This is a significant milestone for British sport. Thanks to the backing of our Government and The National Lottery over the past 15 years, and more recently the investment we have received from Team 2012, we are able to confirm that our goal of top four in the Olympic medal table at our home Games remains on track.”
