After a sensational few days for Team GB, the men’s hockey squad remain in contention for a medal.
Following a comfortable win against Argentina and a 2-2 draw with South Africa, the men’s hockey team took on Australia yesterday. Ranked number one in the world, the Australian team justified their status as favourites with a dominant performance in the first half. When the Aussies added a third goal early in the second period with no reply from the home team the game seemed finished.
However, Elms-sponsored player Iain Mackay and his teammates staged a remarkable comeback, scoring three goals of their own to shock the world number ones and hold them to a draw. Iain’s contribution was invaluable, including some elusive dribbling to set up the equaliser.
A strong result against Spain on Tuesday should see the GB hockey team qualify for the semi-finals.
