At last, the London Olympics are starting. In fact, if you’re a football fan the 2012 Games are already underway, but the opening ceremony tonight will really get the Games going.
The buzz on social media is that the opening ceremony is going to be truly spectacular and an event to remember. We really can’t wait.
Of course, the road to 2012 has been a long one for Elms’ sponsored athletes like Iain Mackay, a member of the GB men’s hockey team. The team scored a 3-1 victory over India earlier this month, and the coach has promised a high-risk, exciting playing style in a bid to beat the favourites, Australia, to the gold. We wish Iain and his teammates the very best of luck. The team’s first game is on Monday against Argentina.
Tomorrow should be one of the most exciting days of the whole Games, with the men’s cycling road race. Mark Cavendish may not be sponsored by Elms (although if he’s looking for a new BMW or MINI we’d certainly offer him a keen price!) but without a doubt the world cycling champion is one of Team GB’s best gold medal prospects. The 156-mile road race route tackles Box Hill in Surrey nine times before finishing on The Mall.
On Sunday the women tackle a shorter version of the same route. Lizzie Armitstead or reigning champion Nicole Cooke are both medal contenders.
Good luck to all the volunteers, officials and competitors. Let’s hope London 2012 is the best Games ever.
